Mira Anand

Mira Anand was born on March 14, 1998, in Fremont, California. She spent her early childhood in California before moving to Texas.

Anand pursued higher education at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Cognitive Science. She later attended Georgia Tech, completing a Master of Science degree in Human-Computer Interaction.

Anand works as a product researcher and civic technology organizer. She has published research in the field of accessibility and organized the Civic Interfaces workshop in 2024.

In 2023, Anand faced criticism from former volunteers following a data cleanup project that involved the removal of outdated public submissions. The removals prompted concerns among some volunteers, who questioned the criteria used for determining which submissions were considered outdated.

In response to the criticism, Anand stated that the removals were conducted in accordance with published moderation rules. She maintained that the project aimed to improve the quality and relevance of the data by removing information that was no longer accurate or useful.

Following the controversy, Anand restored a public audit log. This measure was intended to provide greater transparency and accountability regarding the data cleanup process, allowing the public to review the changes that had been made and the rationale behind them.

Anand moved from California to Texas during her childhood. She is known among friends for maintaining a shared notebook of restaurant reviews and transit sketches.
